League Rules & How It Works
Welcome to League Play
The EAV Tennis Club League is a community-first doubles league designed to help players enjoy more competitive tennis without the commitment of traditional leagues.
Whether you're looking to sharpen your game, meet new tennis partners, or simply play more consistently, our league offers organized matches with the flexibility to fit your schedule.
League Format
Season 1 (Fall 2026)
- 6-week season
- 5 guaranteed doubles matches
- Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles divisions (based on registration)
- Teams grouped by skill level whenever possible
- Full season schedule released before league play begins
- Flexible scheduling with published match deadlines
- Standings updated throughout the season
Adult League Scheduling
One of the biggest advantages of our league is flexibility.
Unlike traditional leagues that assign one match each week, we'll publish the entire season schedule before the league begins.
Your team will know:
- Every opponent
- Every match deadline
- The full season calendar
This allows teams to work around vacations, work schedules, family commitments, and weather.
If both teams agree, matches may be played early—as long as they are completed by the published "Play By" date.
Junior League Scheduling
Junior league matches will use reserved court times to make scheduling easier for families.
After registration closes, we'll reserve:
- One weekday evening match time
- One weekend morning match time
Court assignments and match schedules will be shared before the season begins.
Match Deadlines
Every match will include a published "Play By" date.
Example:
Match 1 – Play by September 14
Match 2 – Play by September 24
Match 3 – Play by October 4
Match 4 – Play by October 14
Match 5 – Play by October 24
Teams are encouraged to schedule their matches early whenever possible.
Home Team Responsibilities
The Home Team (listed first on the schedule) is responsible for:
- Contacting the opposing team shortly after schedules are released
- Suggesting several dates and times
- Reserving a court if needed
- Bringing a new can of tennis balls
Both teams are expected to make a good-faith effort to schedule before the deadline.
Match Format
- Doubles match
- Best 2 out of 3 sets
- Regular scoring
- Third set played as a 10-point match tiebreak
- Players call their own lines
- Home Team provides new tennis balls
- Court fees are split unless otherwise agreed
Average match time: 60–90 minutes
Reporting Scores
The winning team is responsible for submitting the final score using our shared Google Form within 24 hours of completing the match.
Standings will be updated throughout the season.
If a score is entered incorrectly, please contact the league coordinator as soon as possible.
League Standings
Standings will be updated as scores are submitted throughout the season.
Teams will be ranked by:
- Match Wins
- Head-to-Head Result (if applicable)
- Sets Won
- Games Won
Weather Policy
If weather prevents your match:
- Work with the opposing team to find another date before the published deadline.
- If weather makes rescheduling impossible, contact the league coordinator before the deadline.
- Extensions may be granted when necessary.
Player safety always comes first.
Communication Expectations
Communication is one of the most important parts of a successful league.
Please:
- Respond promptly to scheduling requests.
- Let the other team know if plans change.
- Communicate early if you're having trouble finding a time.
Our goal is to get everyone on the court—not to win matches by default.
Sportsmanship
The EAV Tennis Club exists to build community through tennis.
We expect every participant to:
- Treat opponents with respect.
- Make honest line calls.
- Arrive on time.
- Encourage positive sportsmanship.
- Have fun while competing.
Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in removal from the league.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join?
Players with some match-play experience who are looking for friendly, competitive doubles.
Do I have to live in East Atlanta?
No. Players from all communities are welcome.
Can we play our matches early?
Yes. Since the full schedule is released before the season begins, teams are welcome to play future matches early, provided they are completed before that match's published deadline.
Where are matches played?
Teams may play at any mutually agreed-upon public or private court.
What happens if my team can't make a match?
Notify the opposing team as soon as possible and contact the league coordinator if additional assistance is needed.
What if it rains?
Simply reschedule before the published deadline whenever possible. If weather creates significant scheduling issues, the league coordinator may grant an extension.
